RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!!!
1Lt Darren Campion's Story
Darren Campion is participating in the Death March in order to bring awareness to wounded Veterans and to help raise funds for future expansion of the Lakeville VFW. Darren is enthused about the need for additional space at the facility used as a gathering place for veterans, their families, friends and the community. But this fundraising effort is anything but "typical". By helping the VFW, Darren can reach out to many Veterans who are in need.
Darren is a veteran living in Lakeville, MN. He attended United Stated Military Academy at West Point and then served in the United States Army from 1993 until his medical discharge in 2000. During this time, Darren was a member of the elite Airborne, was Ranger School trained and attended the Special Forces CDCQ in Key West, Florida. Darren was deployed as an Army Ranger to Bosnia and Panama. He was headed for a stellar military career and had proven himself to have exceptional skills and abilities.
This career was tragically ended August 23, 1999 when Darren was assaulted and robbed at knife and gun point. As a result of a knife slash to the neck, Darren suffered a stroke which left him with paralysis on the right side of his body and severe aphasia. The aphasia makes it difficult for Darren to speak or understand language both verbal and written. He participated in extensive rehabilitation through the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Darren is a volunteer swim coach at Courage Center and North and South Lakeville Girls and Boys Swimming and Diving Teams.
Darren continues to use his determination, perseverance and physical and mental stamina in order to raise funds for other organizations. This year, he is participating in the Death March both as a way to raise much needed funds but also as a way to demonstrate that hardships can be overcome and that great things can be accomplished through effort and passion. In this way, Darren serves as a role model for others as well as someone who contributes to his community in a very positive way.
He lives lives the Army Values of DUTY, HONOR, and COUNTRY!

Then I heard a voice of the Lord saying
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here I am, send me."
